Ellery Johnson
Ellery Johnson’s formal education began with a BA from Central Methodist University and later a MFA from the Instituto Allende which is afiliated with St. Louis University. Additional hours of college credit were later earned from St. Louis University, Northern Arizona University plus other sources. His teaching career began as an art instructor and ended with 31 years and retirement. During his teaching career, he taught art history, drawing, painting in various medias, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture.
Art awards include a $5,000 first prize for a bicentennial medal design awarded by the Franklin Mint. As a finalist in the St. Louis bicentennial watercolor competition, his entry was exhibited at the St. Louis Art Museum. The Phoenix Art Museum exhibited his pottery as a winner in an Arizona competition. Ellery has participated in numerous indoor and outdoor exhibitions. His versatility is demonstrated in historical sculptures for dioramas in Arizona and Texas Museums.
